I can't even put into words how wonderful my day was with Rob on Saturday. As soon as we set foot in London, we took advantage of the beautiful sunshine and had a lovely walk around by the River Thames, The Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and sooner or later we found ourselves in Covent Garden. Now I was already a big fan of the beautiful Covent Garden, but what I loved even more was the fact that when we went to an Italian restaurant for lunch and sat outside, the waiters gave us red, snuggly blankets so that we wouldn't freeze to death. Awh! Admittedly I did it wrap it around me like a cocoon so I looked like I was more ready to go to sleep than have a meal, but oh, I did love my temporary little cocoon.
It would be a painfully obvious choice for me to talk about the actors playing Charlie and Willy Wonka, and whilst they gave an utterly magnificent portrayal of their characters, I had a more 'random' favourite. My number 1 character without a doubt was Mrs Teavee- Mike's eccentric and frantic mother- who in her quest to do everything to make him happy, resulted in him being a horrible and spoilt bully. What I loved about Mrs Teavee was the fact that she was supposed to represent an innocent and helpless American housewife, however, due to the stress from her son, she reverted to drugs and alcohol as a means of coping, which coincidentally later appeared in a song she was in!
I could rant and rave and sing and dance about how amazing my day in London was and it would still not do it justice. 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' was sensational, the meal that we had at 'The Diner' in the evening (I had a bacon chilli cheese hot dog- mmmmmm) left me longing to go back and steal their food from the kitchen (ok maybe I wouldn't go that far) but more importantly, I had the best day with my boyfriend Rob and I am so grateful for everything he did to make it such a special and memorable day for me. The show left me in 'a world of pure imagination' and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants to see a heart warming, hilarious and downright cleverly produced musical!
Let me know in the comments below if you've seen 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' the musical, or even if you've just had an amazing day trip to London recently!
